How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 200 mg per day. If you are over 65 or have severe kidney or liver problems, the usual dose is 100 mg per day.

Method

You can take your dose once in the morning or split it into two doses: 100 mg in the morning and 100 mg at midday.

Important

Your doctor may increase your daily dose up to a maximum of 400 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness, extreme tiredness, or trouble sleeping
  • Feeling your heart beat faster than usual
  • Chest pain
  • Redness of the skin (flushing)
  • Dry mouth
  • Loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Weakness
  • Numbness or tingling in hands or feet
  • Blurred vision
  • Abnormal liver function blood test results (increased liver enzymes)
  • Irritability
RARE
  • Back pain, neck pain, muscle pain, muscle weakness, leg cramps, joint pain, twitching or trembling
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Difficulty moving muscles smoothly or other movement problems, muscle tension, coordination problems
  • Hay fever-like symptoms, including itchy/runny nose or watery eyes
  • Increased cough, asthma or shortness of breath
  • Rash, acne or itchy skin
  • Sweating
  • Changes in blood pressure (high or low), abnormal ECG, and irregular or unusually slow heartbeat
  • Difficulty swallowing, swollen tongue or mouth sores
  • Severe gas, reflux (stomach acid flowing back up), increased appetite, weight changes, thirst or altered taste

  • Migraine
  • Speech problems
  • Diabetes with high blood sugar
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Swelling of hands and feet
  • Sleep disturbances or abnormal dreams
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Nosebleeds, sore throat or inflamed nasal passages (sinusitis)
  • Abnormal vision or dry eyes
  • Abnormal urine or more frequent urination
  • Abnormal menstrual periods
  • Abnormal blood tests showing changes in white blood cell count
  • Restlessness with increased body movement
  • Swelling under the skin that can be warm or painful
  • Red, raised, itchy rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to modafinil or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have an irregular heartbeat or uncontrolled moderate to severe high blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you feel depressed, aggressive, hostile, or have thoughts of harming yourself, or if your behavior changes.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding, as it may cause birth defects.
  • This medicine may cause blurred vision or dizziness. Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy, dizzy, or if your vision is blurry.

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you get a serious skin rash, blistering, peeling skin, mouth sores, fever, or abnormal blood tests.
  • Get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing, wheezing, or swelling of your face, mouth, or throat.
  • Changes in mood or thinking, such as mood swings, unusual thoughts, aggression, hostility, forgetfulness, confusion, extreme happiness, over-excitement, anxiety, nervousness, depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior, or psychosis (losing touch with reality, with hallucinations or delusions), feeling detached or numb, or personality changes.
