Mobic

Mobic tablets contain meloxicam, which belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used to reduce inflammation and pain in joints and muscles.

How to Use

Dosage

Take one 7.5 mg tablet once daily. The dose may be increased to 15 mg (two tablets) or reduced as directed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the tablets with water or another drink, preferably with food. The tablet can be divided to make swallowing easier.

Important

Do not exceed a maximum daily dose of 15 mg (two 7.5 mg tablets).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia), nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea
  • Headache
RARE
  • Dizziness, vertigo, drowsiness
  • Anemia (decrease in blood hemoglobin)
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Flushing (temporary redness of face and neck)
  • Sodium and water retention in the body
  • Increased blood potassium levels (may cause changes in heart rhythm, palpitations, muscle weakness)
  • Belching
  • Gastritis
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding, stomach or intestinal ulcers, stomatitis
  • Allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, itching, rash, hives
  • Swelling due to fluid retention (edema), including swollen ankles/feet
  • Sudden swelling of the skin or mucous membranes (angioedema), such as swelling around the eyes, face, lips, mouth, or throat, which may make breathing difficult
  • Changes in liver values (elevated liver enzymes or bilirubin), hepatitis, yellowing of skin or eyeballs, abdominal pain, loss of appetite
  • Impaired kidney function (elevated creatinine or urea), acute kidney failure
  • Mood disorders, nightmares
  • Altered blood values (abnormal blood cell counts, decreased white blood cell and platelet counts), increased risk of infection, bruising, nosebleeds
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Heart palpitations, heart failure
  • Esophagitis
  • Asthma attack (difficulty breathing) in patients allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs
  • Severe skin blistering or peeling (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), bullous skin reactions (vesicular reactions), erythema multiforme
  • Visual disturbances (blurred vision, conjunctivitis)
  • Colitis, gastrointestinal perforation
  • Confusion, disorientation
  • Shortness of breath and skin reactions, rashes caused by sunlight (photosensitivity reactions)
  • Complete loss of certain white blood cell types (agranulocytosis), sudden fever, sore throat, infections
  • Pancreatitis
  • Female infertility, delayed ovulation
  • Changes in kidney structure (kidney inflammation, death of some kidney cells, protein in urine)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to meloxicam or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take during the last three months of pregnancy, as it can harm your unborn baby or cause problems with delivery.
  • Not for children or adolescents under 16 years of age.
  • Do not take if you have had wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath (asthma), nasal congestion (nasal polyps), rash or hives, or sudden swelling after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.
  • Do not take if you have experienced bleeding or ulcers in your stomach or intestines in connection with previous NSAID use.

  • Do not take if you have liver failure or severe kidney failure not treated with dialysis.
  • Do not take if you have recently had bleeding in the brain or any bleeding disorder.
  • Do not take if you have severe heart disease.
  • Do not take if you have an intolerance to some sugars (lactose intolerance), as this medicine contains lactose.
  • Stop Mobic tablets immediately if you notice bleeding (dark stools) or gastrointestinal bleeding (stomach pain).
  • If you develop a rash or the skin symptoms mentioned above (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, erythema multiforme), stop Mobic tablets and seek medical attention immediately.
  • Mobic tablets are not suitable for treating acute pain.
  • Mobic tablets may mask symptoms of an underlying infection (e.g., fever). If you suspect an infection, contact your doctor.
  • If you have heart disease, a history of stroke, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, or smoke, discuss your treatment with your doctor, as Mobic tablets may be associated with a slightly increased risk of heart attack or stroke.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Increases swelling, worsens renal and heart failure and causes cardiovascular events. Increases risk of bleeding, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
