How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your body surface area; doses typically range from 5–14 mg per square meter, given as a single dose or daily for a few days, depending on your condition.

Method

The medicine is always given as a diluted, slow drip into a vein (intravenous infusion) under a doctor's supervision.

Important

The maximum dose typically given on a single day is 14 mg per square meter.

  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Sepsis (blood poisoning)
  • Opportunistic infections (infections by microorganisms normally not causing disease in healthy immune system)
  • White blood cell cancer (acute myeloid leukemia)
  • Bone marrow abnormalities leading to leukemia (myelodysplastic syndrome)
  • Weight changes
  • Metabolic disorders (tumor lysis syndrome)
  • Anxiety
  • Confusion
  • Tingling sensation
  • Severe bleeding
  • Low blood pressure
  • Abdominal pain
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding (blood in vomit/stool, black tarry stools)
  • Mucosal inflammation
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Liver abnormalities
  • Skin inflammations (redness)
  • Nail abnormalities (e.g., nail detachment, changes in nail surface/structure)
  • Rash
  • Changes in whites of eyes color
  • Skin discoloration
  • Extravasation (leakage into surrounding tissue) symptoms: redness, swelling, pain, burning sensation, skin discoloration, tissue necrosis (cell death)
  • Abnormal liver and kidney function tests (elevated creatinine, urea nitrogen)
  • Kidney damage (nephropathy) causing swelling and weakness
  • Urine discoloration
  • Edema (swelling)

  • Pneumonia (lung inflammation)
  • Heart muscle damage (cardiomyopathy) preventing the heart from pumping properly

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to mitoxantrone, sulfites, or any other ingredient.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant (especially for MS treatment) or breastfeeding, as it can harm the baby.
  • This medicine can harm your heart. Your doctor will check your heart function before and during treatment.
  • Mitoxantron Ebewe can affect your blood cell counts. Your doctor will perform regular blood tests.
  • This medicine is always given as a drip into a vein. It must not be given under the skin, into a muscle, an artery, or the spinal fluid, as this can cause severe damage.

  • This medicine can turn your urine blue-green and may also cause a bluish tint to your skin, nails, and the whites of your eyes.
  • You must use effective contraception during and after treatment, as the medicine can harm an unborn baby or affect fertility.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience fever, infections, unexplained bleeding or bruising, weakness, or difficulty breathing.
