How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually 15 mg or 30 mg daily, and your doctor may increase it to between 15 mg and 45 mg per day.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth. Place the tablet on your tongue, where it will quickly dissolve and can be swallowed without water; do not crush it. It is best taken once daily in the evening before bed, or your doctor may suggest splitting the dose into morning and evening, with the evening dose being larger.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 45 mg.

  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or strong, abnormal sleepiness (lethargy)
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Tremor
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Rash or eczema
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Swelling (especially ankles and feet) due to fluid retention (edema)
  • Fatigue
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • Memory problems (which usually resolved after treatment stopped)
RARE
  • Feeling of elation or being 'high' (mania)
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin (a sign of liver problems, jaundice)
  • Signs of infection, such as unexplained high fever, sore throat, and mouth ulcers (agranulocytosis)
  • Seizures (epileptic attacks)
  • A combination of symptoms including fever, sweating, rapid heart rate, diarrhea, muscle contractions, shaking, restlessness, mood changes, unconsciousness (serotonin syndrome)
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions: red, target-like patches or blisters on the trunk, peeling skin, sores in the mouth, throat, genitals, and eyes; widespread rash, high body temperature, and swollen lymph nodes
  • Abnormal skin sensations, such as burning, tingling, or prickling (paresthesia)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Numbness or abnormal sensations in the mouth (oral hypesthesia/paresthesia)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Agitation
  • Hallucinations
  • Strong urge to move
  • Muscle twitching or spasms (myoclonus)
  • Aggression
  • Abdominal pain and nausea, which may be signs of pancreatitis
  • Swelling of the mouth, swelling of the whole body, local swelling
  • Low sodium in blood (hyponatremia)
  • Inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion
  • Sleepwalking
  • Speech disorder
  • Increased blood creatine kinase levels
  • Urination difficulties (urinary retention)
  • Muscle pain, stiffness and/or weakness, dark or discolored urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Increased prolactin hormone levels in the blood, which can lead to breast growth and/or milk discharge (hyperprolactinemia)
  • Prolonged, painful erection of the penis
  • Increased blood lipids (in children and adolescents)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have used MAO inhibitors (antidepressants) within the last two weeks.
  • If you have ever had severe skin reactions, such as rashes, peeling skin, or blisters in the mouth, consult your doctor.
  • This medication is generally not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 due to an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and hostility.
  • If your depression worsens or you have thoughts of harming yourself, especially at the start of treatment or if you are under 25, contact your doctor immediately.

  • Inform your doctor about any existing or past medical conditions such as epilepsy, liver or kidney disease, heart problems, diabetes, or glaucoma.
  • Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you develop signs of infection, such as unexplained high fever, sore throat, or mouth ulcers.
  • Elderly individuals may be more sensitive to the side effects of antidepressants.
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it can increase drowsiness.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine may affect your concentration and reaction time; ensure you can drive or operate machinery safely.
