How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day. Your doctor may increase this to 15-45 mg per day.

Method

Take your medicine at the same time each day. It's best to take it as a single dose before bedtime. Your doctor might suggest splitting the dose, taking it once in the morning and once before bedtime, with the larger dose before bedtime. Swallow the tablet whole with water or juice; do not chew it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 45 mg.

  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or sleepiness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Feeling very drowsy or tired
  • Dizziness
  • Shaking or tremors
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Skin rash or skin problems
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly
  • Swelling (usually in ankles or feet) due to fluid buildup
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • Memory problems (usually go away after stopping medicine)
RARE
  • Abnormal skin sensations (e.g., burning, tingling, itching, pricking)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting
  • Numbness in the mouth
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling agitated, with a strong need to move
  • Hallucinations
  • Compulsive movements
  • Muscle twitching or spasms
  • Aggression
  • Stomach pain and nausea (possible pancreatitis)
  • Long-lasting painful erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Mirtazapin Sandoz if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking or have recently taken (in the last two weeks) other medicines called MAO inhibitors.
  • Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, or sores in your mouth, throat, nose, or eyes.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide at any time, contact your doctor or go to a hospital right away.
  • If you get signs of infection like a high fever, sore throat, or mouth sores, stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away for a blood test.

  • If you have seizures or if they become more frequent, stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away.
  • If your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow (jaundice), stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away. This could be a sign of liver problems.
  • If you feel overly happy or excited (mania), stop taking this medicine and talk to your doctor.
  • In rare cases, this medicine can cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Symptoms include unexplained fever, sweating, fast heart rate, diarrhea, muscle spasms, shivering, overactive reflexes, restlessness, mood changes, and unconsciousness. If you have any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor right away.
  • This medicine may make you less alert and focused. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not stop taking Mirtazapin Sandoz suddenly, even if you feel better. Your doctor will tell you how to slowly reduce your dose.
