How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day. Your doctor may adjust your dose to between 15–45 mg per day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water or juice. Take your dose usually once a day, just before going to bed. Your doctor may also tell you to split your dose into morning and evening doses.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 45 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or sleepiness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Tremors or shaking
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Skin rash
  • Joint or muscle pain, back pain
  • Swelling due to fluid retention (e.g., in ankles or feet)
  • Vivid dreams or sleep problems
  • Confusion or anxiety
  • Memory problems
RARE
  • Feeling overly excited or high (mania)
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
  • Signs of infection, such as high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores
  • Seizures (convulsions)
  • Serotonin syndrome (e.g., fever, sweating, fast heart rate, muscle jerks, confusion)
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions (e.g., target-like red patches, blisters, peeling skin, widespread rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes)
  • Abnormal skin sensations (e.g., burning, tingling, prickling)
  • Restless legs or involuntary movements
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Numbness in the mouth
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Aggressiveness
  • Pancreatitis (stomach pain and nausea)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are currently taking or have recently (within the last two weeks) taken antidepressants called MAO inhibitors.
  • Stop taking this medicine right away and contact a doctor if you develop severe skin reactions, such as red patches, blisters, peeling skin, fever, or mouth sores.
  • This medicine is generally not recommended for children and adolescents under 18, due to an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and hostility.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately or go to a hospital.

  • Be careful about serotonin syndrome when taking Mirtazapin Sandoz with other antidepressants or St. John's Wort. Symptoms include fever, sweating, fast heart rate, muscle jerks, and confusion. Talk to your doctor if you experience these.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it may increase drowsiness.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine may affect your alertness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • Tell your doctor if you have any existing health conditions such as epilepsy, liver or kidney disease, heart problems, diabetes, or high eye pressure.
  • If you develop signs of infection, such as high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor.
