How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day, and your doctor may adjust it to between 15 and 45 mg per day.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with a little water or juice, without chewing. You can take it with or without food. It is usually taken once a day, just before bedtime. Your doctor might also advise taking part of the dose in the morning and a larger part in the evening.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 45 mg.

Possible Side Effects

  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or sleepiness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Lethargy (feeling of sluggishness)
  • Dizziness
  • Tremors or shaking

  • Diarrhea

  • Skin rash or other skin reactions
  • Joint pain or muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Feeling dizzy or faint when standing up quickly (low blood pressure)
  • Swelling due to fluid retention (e.g., in ankles and feet)
  • Tiredness
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleeping problems
  • Memory problems (usually resolved after stopping the medicine)
RARE
  • Excessive high mood (mania)
  • Unusual skin sensations (burning, tingling, itching, or prickling)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Numbness in the mouth
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling agitated
  • Hallucinations
  • Strong urge to move
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice, liver problems)
  • Muscle twitching or spasms
  • Aggressiveness
  • Stomach pain and nausea (may indicate pancreatitis)
  • Signs of infection (sudden high fever, sore throat, mouth sores)
  • Epileptic seizure
  • Serotonin syndrome (fever, sweating, fast heart rate, diarrhea, muscle spasms, restlessness, mood changes, unconsciousness)
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions like target-shaped red patches, blisters, peeling skin, sores in mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Widespread skin rash, high fever, swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome)
  • Abnormal sensation in the mouth
  • Swelling of the mouth
  • General swelling of the body
  • Local swelling
  • Low sodium in blood (headache, tiredness, seizures, coma)
  • Inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion
  • Sleepwalking
  • Speech problems
  • Increased creatine kinase in blood
  • Difficulty urinating (urinary retention)
  • Muscle pain, stiffness, or weakness, dark or discolored urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Increased prolactin hormone in blood (enlarged breasts, milk production)
  • Prolonged and painful erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are taking or have recently taken (in the last two weeks) medicines called MAO inhibitors.
  • Stop taking the medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you develop a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, or sores in the mouth. Do not restart Mirtazapin ratiopharm if you have had a severe skin reaction before.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact a doctor immediately or go to a hospital.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had seizures, liver problems (like yellow skin/eyes), psychosis (like paranoia), extreme mood changes (mania), or signs of infection (fever, sore throat, mouth sores). Your doctor may advise you to stop the medication.

  • This medicine can make you less alert. Do not drive or operate machines until you know how it affects you.
