How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day. Your doctor may increase your dose to 15-45 mg per day for better effect.

Method

Take Mirtazapin Orion at the same time each day, preferably as a single dose before bedtime. You can also take part of the dose in the morning and the larger part before bedtime. Swallow the tablet whole with water or juice, do not chew.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 45 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness and sleepiness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Reduced alertness
  • Dizziness
  • Tremor or shaking
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Skin rash or eczema
  • Joint pain or muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly (low blood pressure when standing)
  • Swelling (usually ankles or feet) due to fluid retention
  • Fatigue
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • Memory problems, which usually resolved after stopping the medicine
RARE
  • Extremely elevated mood (mania)
  • Abnormal skin sensations, such as burning, stinging, itching, or tingling (paresthesia)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Numbness in the mouth (oral hypoesthesia)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Agitation with a strong urge to move
  • Hallucinations
  • Compulsive urge to move
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin, which can be a sign of liver problems (jaundice)
  • Muscle jerks or spasms (myoclonus)
  • Aggressiveness
  • Stomach pain and nausea, which can be a sign of pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis)
  • Signs of infection such as sudden high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores (agranulocytosis)
  • Epileptic seizure (convulsions)
  • Serotonin syndrome (symptoms like unexplained fever, sweating, fast heart rate, diarrhea, muscle contractions, tremors, overactive reflexes, restlessness, mood changes, unconsciousness, and increased salivation)
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide
  • Abnormal sensations in the mouth (paresthesia)
  • Swelling of the mouth (edema)
  • Whole body swelling (generalized edema)
  • Local swelling (local edema)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia)
  • Inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone
  • Sleepwalking (somnambulism)
  • Speech problems
  • Increased creatine kinase levels in blood
  • Difficulty urinating (urinary retention)
  • Muscle pain, stiffness, and/or weakness
  • Dark or discolored urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Increased prolactin levels in blood (hyperprolactinemia), including symptoms like enlarged breasts and/or milky discharge from nipples
  • Painful, prolonged erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Mirtazapin Orion if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Mirtazapin Orion if you are taking or have recently taken (in the last two weeks) medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores after taking Mirtazapin Orion. Seek medical help immediately if these occur.
  • If you have epilepsy and experience seizures or more frequent seizures, stop taking Mirtazapin Orion and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you have liver disease, including jaundice, and you experience yellowing of the skin or eyes, stop taking Mirtazapin Orion and contact your doctor immediately.

  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, heart disease, low blood pressure, schizophrenia (worsening psychosis), bipolar disorder (mania), diabetes, glaucoma, difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate, or certain heart problems affecting heart rhythm, or if you are taking medicines that affect heart rhythm.
  • If you get signs of infection, such as unexplained high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores, stop taking Mirtazapin Orion and contact your doctor immediately for a blood test. These symptoms, though rare, can indicate problems with blood cell production.
  • If you are elderly, you may be more sensitive to the side effects of antidepressants.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Mirtazapin Orion, as it can make you feel sleepy.
  • Mirtazapin Orion may affect your alertness and concentration. Do not drive or operate machinery until you are sure your abilities are not impaired.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor or go to a hospital immediately.
