How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day. Your doctor may increase your dose after a few days to a more suitable dose (15–45 mg per day).

Method

Take Mirtazapin Orion at the same time each day, preferably as a single dose just before bedtime. Your doctor might suggest splitting the dose, taking part in the morning and the larger part before bedtime. Swallow the tablet whole with water or juice.

Important

The maximum daily dose is typically 45 mg per day.

  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or sleepiness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Decreased alertness
  • Dizziness
  • Tremors or shaking
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Rash or skin problems (exanthem)
  • Joint pain (arthralgia) or muscle pain (myalgia)
  • Back pain
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Swelling due to fluid retention (edema), usually in ankles or feet
  • Tiredness
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • Memory problems, which usually resolved after stopping treatment.
RARE
  • Excessive elevation of mood (mania)
  • Abnormal skin sensations, e.g., burning, tingling, itching or prickling (paresthesia)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Numbness in the mouth (oral hypoesthesia)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling of anxiety accompanied by a strong urge to move
  • Hallucinations
  • Compulsive urge to move
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice), which may indicate liver problems.
  • Muscle jerks or spasms (myoclonus)
  • Aggressiveness
  • Abdominal pain and nausea, which may indicate pancreatitis.
  • Signs of infection, such as sudden unexplained high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores (agranulocytosis), which can be signs of blood cell production disorders.
  • Epileptic seizure (convulsion)
  • A combination of symptoms such as unexplained fever, sweating, increased heart rate, diarrhea, (uncontrollable) muscle contractions, muscle tremors, overactive reflexes, restlessness, mood changes, unconsciousness and increased salivation, which can be signs of serotonin syndrome.
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions, such as reddish target-like spots or circular patches, often with blisters in the center, peeling skin, and sores in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)).
  • Abnormal sensations in the mouth (oral paresthesia)
  • Swelling of the mouth (oral edema)
  • Whole body swelling (generalized edema)
  • Local swelling (local edema)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia)
  • Inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion
  • Sleepwalking (somnambulism)
  • Speech disorder
  • Increased blood creatine kinase levels
  • Urination difficulties (urinary retention)
  • Muscle pain, stiffness, and/or weakness
  • Darkened or discolored urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Increased blood prolactin levels (hyperprolactinemia), including symptoms of enlarged breasts and/or milky discharge from the nipples.
  • Painful prolonged erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are taking or have recently taken (within the last two weeks) monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
  • Tell your doctor if you have previously had a severe rash, peeling skin, blisters, and/or mouth sores after taking Mirtazapin Orion tablets.
  • Mirtazapin Orion is generally not for children and adolescents under 18, as it may increase the risk of side effects like suicidal thoughts and hostility in this age group.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or committing suicide, contact a doctor or go to a hospital immediately.

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had seizures (epilepsy); if seizures occur or worsen, stop taking Mirtazapin Orion and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, including jaundice; if you develop jaundice, stop taking Mirtazapin Orion and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you develop signs of infection, such as unexplained high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores, stop Mirtazapin Orion treatment and contact your doctor immediately for a possible blood test.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Mirtazapin Orion, as it may make you feel drowsy.
  • Mirtazapin Orion may affect your alertness and concentration; ensure you are not affected before driving or operating machinery.
  • Mirtazapin Orion tablets contain lactose; consult your doctor if you have a sugar intolerance.
  • Do not stop taking Mirtazapin Orion suddenly, even if your depression has improved, as this may cause withdrawal symptoms; your doctor will advise on how to gradually reduce the dose.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart disease or low blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have schizophrenia; if psychotic symptoms like paranoid thoughts occur more often or worsen, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bipolar disorder; if your mood becomes strongly elevated or you feel overexcited, stop taking Mirtazapin Orion and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as your insulin dose or other diabetes medication might need adjustment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an eye disease, such as increased eye pressure (glaucoma).
  • Tell your doctor if you have urination difficulties, possibly due to an enlarged prostate.
  • Tell your doctor if you have certain types of heart conditions that can cause rhythm disturbances, a recent heart attack, heart failure, or are taking medications that affect heart rhythm.
  • If you are elderly, you may be more sensitive to the side effects of antidepressants.
