How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day. Your doctor may adjust your dose later.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth at the same time each day, preferably before bedtime. It dissolves quickly in your mouth and can be swallowed without water. Your doctor might suggest taking part of the dose in the morning and part in the evening.

Important

The maximum dose is usually 45 mg per day, but your doctor will decide the best dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or sleepiness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Skin rash or eczema
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly
  • Swelling (e.g., ankles or feet) due to water retention
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleeping problems
  • Memory problems (usually went away after stopping the medicine)
RARE
  • Feeling overly happy or "high" (mania)
  • Yellowing of eyes or skin (jaundice), which may indicate liver problems
  • Signs of infection like sudden high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores (agranulocytosis), indicating a serious blood problem
  • Seizures
  • Serotonin syndrome: a combination of symptoms like unexplained fever, sweating, fast heart rate, diarrhea, uncontrollable muscle spasms, shivering, overactive reflexes, restlessness, mood changes, and unconsciousness.
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions: red patches on the body (like target shapes), blisters, peeling skin, sores in mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes, sometimes with fever and flu-like symptoms.
  • Unusual skin feelings (e.g., burning, tingling, prickling)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting
  • Numbness in the mouth
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling agitated with a strong need to move
  • Hallucinations
  • Forced movements
  • Muscle twitching or spasms
  • Aggression
  • Stomach pain and feeling sick, which can be a sign of pancreas inflammation
  • Swelling in the mouth or general body swelling
  • Low sodium in blood (hyponatremia)
  • Sleepwalking
  • Speech problems
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Muscle pain, stiffness, and/or weakness
  • Dark or discolored urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • High levels of prolactin hormone in the blood (hyperprolactinemia), which can cause enlarged breasts and/or milky discharge from nipples
  • Painful, long-lasting erection of the penis

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not use MAO inhibitors (medicines for depression) at the same time, or within two weeks of stopping or starting Mirtazapin Orion.
  • If you have had severe skin reactions, such as rashes, blisters, or peeling skin with Mirtazapin Orion, do not restart treatment and contact a doctor.
  • This medicine is generally not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • If you have suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor immediately or go to a hospital.

  • Tell your doctor if you develop a fever, sore throat, or mouth sores, as these can be signs of a serious blood problem.
  • Inform your doctor if you have or have had seizures, liver or kidney disease, heart problems, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, diabetes, eye disease, or difficulty urinating.
