How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day, which your doctor may adjust up to 45 mg.

Method

Take Mirtazapin Orion at the same time each day, usually as a single dose before bedtime. Your doctor might suggest splitting the dose. Place the tablet in your mouth; it dissolves quickly and can be swallowed without water.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or feeling sleepy
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness or feeling lightheaded, especially when standing up quickly
  • Shaking or tremors
  • Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, or constipation
  • Skin rash
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, or back pain
  • Swelling (usually ankles or feet) due to fluid buildup
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety or trouble sleeping
  • Memory problems (usually go away after stopping the medicine)
RARE
  • Feeling unusually happy or overactive (mania)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), which can be a sign of liver problems
  • Signs of infection like sudden high fever, sore throat, or mouth sores (this can mean a lack of white blood cells)
  • Seizures or fits
  • Serotonin syndrome: symptoms like unexplained fever, sweating, fast heart rate, diarrhea, muscle twitching, restlessness, mood changes, and unconsciousness
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions, including red patches on the body (like targets), skin peeling, sores in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes, or widespread rash with fever and swollen lymph nodes.
  • Unusual skin sensations like burning, tingling, itching, or numbness (especially in the mouth)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling agitated, hallucinations, or a strong urge to move
  • Muscle twitching or spasms
  • Aggressiveness
  • Stomach pain and nausea (could be a sign of pancreas inflammation)
  • Swelling in the mouth or other parts of the body
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • Problems with a hormone that controls water in your body
  • Sleepwalking
  • Speech problems
  • Increased level of creatine kinase in your blood (a sign of muscle breakdown)
  • Difficulty urinating or holding urine
  • Muscle pain, stiffness, or weakness, and dark urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Increased levels of a hormone called prolactin (can cause breast enlargement or milk production in men and non-pregnant women)
  • Long-lasting painful erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are currently taking or have recently taken (within the last two weeks) other medicines called MAO inhibitors (MAOIs).
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash, skin peeling, or blisters in your mouth, eyes, or genitals. These can be signs of a serious skin reaction.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine as it can make you feel more drowsy.
  • This medicine can make you less alert. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
