How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 15 or 30 mg daily. Your doctor may increase this to 15-45 mg daily over a few days to find the best dose for you.

Method

Take Mirtazapin Hexal at the same time each day, preferably as a single dose before bedtime. Your doctor might suggest taking it as two doses, with a larger dose before bedtime. Swallow the tablet whole with water or juice. 15 mg and 30 mg tablets can be divided.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 45 mg. Your doctor may adjust the dose if you are older or have kidney or liver problems.

  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Swelling due to fluid retention, especially in ankles or feet
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • Memory problems (usually temporary)
RARE
  • Excessively elevated mood (mania)
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice), which can be a sign of liver problems
  • Abnormal skin sensations like burning, stinging, itching, or tingling (paresthesia)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Numbness in the mouth (oral hypoesthesia)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling of anxiety with a strong urge to move (akathisia)
  • Hallucinations
  • Muscle twitching or spasms (myoclonus)
  • Aggressiveness
  • Stomach pain and nausea, which can be signs of pancreatitis
  • Signs of infection, such as sudden high fever, sore throat, and mouth sores (agranulocytosis)
  • Epileptic seizure (convulsions)
  • Serotonin syndrome, with symptoms like unexplained fever, sweating, increased heart rate, diarrhea, muscle spasms, shivering, restlessness, mood changes, unconsciousness, and increased saliva production
  • Thoughts of harming oneself or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions, such as red spots on the body (target-like spots or rings), peeling skin, ulcers in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals and eyes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), or widespread rash, high body temperature and enlarged lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome)
  • Swelling of the mouth
  • Whole body swelling
  • Local swelling
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia)
  • Inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion
  • Sleepwalking
  • Speech disorder
  • Increased blood creatine kinase levels
  • Difficulty urinating (urinary retention)
  • Muscle pain, stiffness and/or weakness, and dark or discolored urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Abnormally high levels of the hormone prolactin in the blood (hyperprolactinemia), including symptoms like breast milk production and enlarged breasts in men
  • Prolonged painful erection of the penis

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Mirtazapin Hexal if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Mirtazapin Hexal if you are taking or have recently taken (within the last two weeks) medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
  • Stop taking Mirtazapin Hexal and contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe skin reactions like red spots, blistering, peeling skin, or mouth sores. If you have had severe skin reactions before, you should not start Mirtazapin Hexal again.
  • Mirtazapin Hexal is not usually recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years old.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, especially at the start of treatment, contact your doctor or go to a hospital immediately.

  • If you have epilepsy and experience seizures or they become more frequent, stop Mirtazapin Hexal and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you develop jaundice (yellow skin or eyes), stop Mirtazapin Hexal and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you have schizophrenia and your psychotic symptoms like paranoid thoughts become more frequent or severe, contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you have bipolar disorder and feel overly energetic or extremely excited, stop Mirtazapin Hexal and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you get signs of infection like unexplained high fever, sore throat, or mouth sores, stop Mirtazapin Hexal and see your doctor immediately for a blood test.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Mirtazapin Hexal, as it can make you feel sleepy.
  • Mirtazapin Hexal can affect your concentration and ability to react. Do not drive or use machines until you are sure your abilities are not impaired.
  • Do not stop Mirtazapin Hexal suddenly. Always talk to your doctor, who will advise you on how to gradually reduce the dose to avoid withdrawal symptoms like nausea, dizziness, agitation, anxiety, and headache.
