How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose is 15 mg or 30 mg per day. Your doctor may increase your dose after a few days to a more suitable dose (15-45 mg per day).

Method

Take your tablet by mouth. Swallow the prescribed dose of Mirtazapin Actavis whole, without chewing, with a small amount of water or juice.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 45 mg, as adjusted by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Drowsiness or tiredness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Lethargy
  • Dizziness
  • Tremor or shaking
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Skin rash or skin eruption
  • Joint or muscle pain (arthralgia or myalgia)
  • Back pain
  • Dizziness or faintness when standing up quickly (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Swelling due to fluid retention (oedema), usually in ankles or feet
  • Vivid dreams
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • Memory problems (often resolved after stopping treatment)
RARE
  • Excessive high mood (mania)
  • Abnormal skin sensations (e.g., burning, tingling, itching, numbness)
  • Restless legs
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Numbness in the mouth (oral hypoesthesia)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nightmares
  • Anxiety with strong need to move (akathisia)
  • Hallucinations
  • Compulsive need to move
  • Yellowing of eyes or skin (jaundice), a sign of liver problems
  • Muscle twitching or contractions (myoclonus)
  • Aggressiveness
  • Stomach pain and nausea, possibly a sign of pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis)
  • Infection symptoms (sudden high fever, sore throat, mouth sores) due to lack of white blood cells (agranulocytosis)
  • Epileptic seizures (convulsions)
  • Serotonin syndrome (unexplained fever, sweating, fast heart rate, diarrhea, muscle spasms, shaking, overactive reflexes, restlessness, mood changes, unconsciousness, increased salivation)
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Severe skin reactions (reddish target-like spots or round patches on the trunk, often with blisters, skin peeling, mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eye sores, preceded by fever and flu-like symptoms, e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Widespread rash, high body temperature, and enlarged lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome or drug hypersensitivity syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to mirtazapine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are currently using or have recently used (within the last two weeks) medicines called MAO inhibitors.
  • Tell your doctor before taking Mirtazapin Actavis if you have previously had a severe skin rash, skin peeling, blisters, and/or mouth sores after taking mirtazapine or other medicines.
  • This medicine is not normally for use in children and adolescents under 18 years old.
  • If you are depressed, you might sometimes have thoughts of harming yourself or taking your own life. Contact your doctor immediately if you have such thoughts.
