How to Use

Dosage

Take 1-2 tablets daily, or as your doctor tells you. Doses vary depending on your condition, from 60 mcg up to 240 mcg (or 360 mcg for diabetes insipidus) per day.

Method

Place the tablet under your tongue where it will dissolve.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 360 micrograms, or as prescribed by your doctor.

Important Warnings

  • Limit how much you drink for 1 hour before and 8 hours after taking Minirin, especially for bedwetting or frequent night peeing. Only drink enough to quench your thirst.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to desmopressin or any other ingredient in Minirin.
  • Do not use if you have severe thirst (polydipsia), heart failure, poor kidney function, or very low sodium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines, as some can increase the effects of Minirin and cause too much fluid to build up in your body.
  • Be careful if you have problems with your body's fluid balance, especially during acute illness.

  • If you are 65 or older, have low blood sodium, or produce a large amount of urine daily, your doctor will need to monitor you closely.
  • Use with caution if you are at risk of increased pressure in your head.
  • Minirin may work less well if taken with food.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Minirin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of fluid retention and hyponatraemia. Treatment of ADH deficiency can be started under specialist supervision. (updated 6.11.2023)
