How to Use

Dosage

For diabetes insipidus, adults and children take 1-2 tablets (60 mcg) under the tongue three times a day. For children's bedwetting, take 1-2 tablets (120 mcg) under the tongue at night. For adults with frequent nighttime urination, start with 60 mcg under the tongue at night and can increase up to 240 mcg weekly if needed.

Method

Place the freeze-dried, melt-in-the-mouth tablet under your tongue.

Important

The maximum dose depends on the condition being treated, but do not exceed 240 micrograms per day.

Important Warnings

  • Limit fluid intake 1 hour before and 8 hours after taking Minirin; only drink enough to quench your thirst.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to desmopressin or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you drink too much fluid (polydipsia), have heart failure, or other conditions requiring water pills.
  • Do not use if you have poor kidney function or low sodium levels in your blood.
  • Be careful if you have an acute illness that might affect your body's fluid balance.

  • Be careful if you are 65 or older and have low sodium levels in your blood or pass a lot of urine daily.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as some can make Minirin work stronger.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Risk of fluid retention and hyponatraemia. Treatment of ADH deficiency can be started under specialist supervision. (updated 6.11.2023)
