How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 2.5 mg, taken 2–3 times a day. Your doctor may adjust the dose until it works best for you.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can break the tablet in half. Take the tablets during the day, about every 3–4 hours, while you are upright (sitting or standing).

Important

Most people do not need more than 30 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Goosebumps or chills
  • Pain or difficulty when urinating
  • Tingling or itching skin, especially on the scalp
  • High blood pressure when lying down
  • Feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, heartburn, or inflammation in the mouth
  • Rash or flushing
RARE
  • Sleep problems (like insomnia), headache, feeling restless, irritable, anxious, or confused
  • Slow or fast heartbeat, palpitations (feeling your heart race), or chest pain
  • Dizziness, fainting, or stroke
  • Vision problems
  • Stomach ache, sudden urge to urinate, or diarrhea
  • Liver problems (which might show up in blood tests)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to midodrine or any other ingredients. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, trouble breathing, or severe dizziness.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have high blood pressure, severe heart disease, an overactive thyroid, an untreated adrenal gland tumor, severe kidney disease, or narrowed blood vessels that affect your heart.
  • Do not take this medicine late in the evening. Take your last daily dose at least 4 hours before bedtime. Keep your head raised at night to help prevent high blood pressure while lying down.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you get symptoms of high blood pressure, like a fast heartbeat, headache, or blurred vision.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you are a man with an enlarged prostate, have vision problems due to diabetes, trouble urinating, or glaucoma (high eye pressure).

  • This medicine can cause dizziness or weakness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or unwell.
  • Do not give this medicine to children or teenagers under 18 years old.
