Dosage

The dosage is determined by your doctor based on your age, weight, health, and the reason for treatment.

Method

Midazolam hameln is given by a doctor or nurse as a slow injection into a vein, a drip into a vein, an injection into a muscle, or rectally.

Important

The maximum daily dose is decided by your doctor and varies depending on your individual needs.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, pale skin, weak pulse, and chest pain.
  • Heart attack (cardiac arrest), with symptoms like chest pain.
  • Severe breathing difficulties leading to breathing stopping.
  • Muscle spasms around the voice box causing choking.
COMMON
  • Reduced alertness.
  • Confusion.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness.
  • Drowsiness or prolonged tiredness.
  • Temporary memory loss.
  • Agitation, restlessness, anger, or aggression.
  • Slow heart rate.
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness or fainting.
  • Hiccups.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Itching or rash.
  • Redness, pain, or swelling at the injection site.
  • Increased risk of falls and fractures.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to midazolam or other benzodiazepines.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems and are receiving Midazolam hameln for conscious sedation.
  • Tell your doctor if you are over 60, have long-term illnesses (like breathing, kidney, liver, or heart problems), myasthenia gravis, or sleep apnea.
  • Inform your doctor if you have had problems with alcohol or drugs.
  • Do not drink alcohol after receiving Midazolam hameln, as it can cause strong drowsiness and breathing difficulties.

  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until your doctor says it's safe, and ensure an adult accompanies you home after treatment.
  • Concurrent use with opioids can cause severe drowsiness, breathing problems, and coma, which can be life-threatening.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. Being very short-acting, may cause amnesia and confusion. Increases the risk of drug addiction, rebound insomnia and cognitive disorder. Increases the risk of falls and traffic accidents. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. Consider the numerous potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 12.2.2024)
