How to Use

Dosage

For preventing bone loss: 100 IU once a day or 50 IU twice a day for 2-4 weeks. For Paget's disease: 100 IU once a day. For high calcium levels: 100 IU every 6-8 hours. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin or into a muscle. Sometimes, it can also be given slowly into a vein (as an infusion).

Always follow your doctor's instructions; do not exceed the recommended dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, possibly with vomiting. These symptoms are less common if the injection is given in the evening after meals.
  • Flushing of the face or neck, usually observed 10-20 minutes after injection.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Tiredness.
  • Bone or joint pain.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Cancer (after long-term use).
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., increased heartbeat, difficulty breathing, swelling of the tongue and throat, chest tightness, sudden drop in blood pressure or shock). Seek medical help immediately.
  • Swelling of the face, limbs, or entire body.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Redness and swelling at the injection site.
  • Vision disturbances.
  • Frequent urge to urinate.
  • Other allergic reactions, including rash and itching (body rash).
  • Decreased calcium levels in the blood, 4-6 hours after a Miacalcic dose, though you might not notice any symptoms.
  • The effect of calcitonin may decrease due to the development of antibodies.
  • Tremors.
  • Decreased calcium levels in the blood, which can sometimes lead to cramps.
  • Hives.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to calcitonin (salmon synthetic) or any other ingredient, or if you have very low calcium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you have been diagnosed with cancer. Long-term use of calcitonin for bone conditions has shown an increased risk of cancer in some studies. Your doctor will decide if this medicine is right for you and how long you should use it.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • It is important to tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially those for heart conditions, high blood pressure, medicines containing lithium, or bisphosphonates (used for osteoporosis).
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.

  • This medicine may cause tiredness, dizziness, and vision problems. If you experience these effects, you should not drive or operate machines.
  • Do not use this medicine right after taking it out of the refrigerator; allow it to warm to room temperature. Use it immediately after opening the ampoule and discard any unused solution.
  • Do not use this medicine if the solution is not clear and colorless.
