How to Use

Dosage

A thin layer of cream is applied to the treated area.

Method

The skin area is prepared, and the cream is applied. The treatment also involves light therapy. After light exposure, the cream is washed off.

Important

Used only once per treatment session.

RARE
  • Skin irritation
  • Hives or urticaria
  • Areas with lighter or darker skin after healing
  • Photosensitivity reaction
  • Unpleasant sensation
  • Eye swelling or pain
  • Nausea
  • Heat rash
  • Fatigue
  • Allergic reaction (angioedema) with symptoms such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing
  • Pustules and eczema (dry, flaking skin) at the application site, and contact dermatitis
  • Increased blood pressure due to pain during red light therapy
  • Temporary memory loss (including confusion or disorientation)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to metylaminolevulinate, peanut oil, soy, or any other ingredient in Metvix.
  • Do not use if you have a rare type of skin cancer (morphea-type basal cell carcinoma) or a rare blood disorder called porphyria.
  • Avoid direct contact with eyes, eyelids, and mucous membranes.
  • If you experience face, tongue, or throat swelling, rash, or difficulty breathing, stop using Metvix immediately and contact your doctor.
  • Increased light exposure or prolonged treatment with red light may cause a severe skin reaction.

  • In rare cases, light therapy may cause temporary memory loss or confusion. Contact your doctor if this happens.
  • Avoid sun exposure on treated areas and surrounding skin for a few days after treatment.
  • Metvix is not recommended during pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Metvix if you have specific types of skin lesions (e.g., colored, deep, or on genitals), thick or large lesions, use immunosuppressants, have a history of arsenic exposure, or high blood pressure.
