How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right dose for you based on your illness, age, and weight.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give this medicine to you as an intravenous drip directly into a vein.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Vague feelings of discomfort.
  • Metallic taste in mouth.
  • Lower white blood cell count (leukopenia).
RARE
  • Lower platelet count (thrombocytopenia).
  • Mental changes like confusion or seeing/hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations).
  • Dizziness, problems with coordination, nerve problems such as numbness, pain, or tingling in arms or legs, and seizures.
  • Vision changes, such as double vision or blurry vision.
  • Tongue inflammation, stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, changes in taste, and loss of appetite.
  • Abnormal liver blood test results, liver inflammation, yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice), or pancreas inflammation.
  • Skin rash, itching, or hives.
  • Hot flashes.
  • Dark urine.
  • Fever.
  • Headache.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to metronidazole or any similar ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have unusual blood test results or a blood disease.
  • Do not use if you have a nervous system illness.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you feel numbness or tingling in your skin, have trouble with coordination, feel dizzy, or have seizures.
  • Do not drink alcohol during treatment and for one day after. It can cause dizziness or vomiting.

  • Do not breastfeed while using this medicine, as it can pass into breast milk.
  • Do not drive or use machines, especially at the start of treatment, as this medicine can make you less alert.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a genetic condition called Cockayne syndrome.
