How to Use

Dosage

Typically, adults take one 47.5 mg extended-release tablet once a day. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Take the tablet once daily, preferably with breakfast. Swallow the tablet whole or split it in half, but do not chew or crush it. Take it with at least half a glass of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 190 mg, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to metoprolol or other similar medicines (beta-blockers).
  • Do not take if you have severe heart rhythm problems, a very slow heartbeat (under 50 beats per minute), or unstable/worsening heart failure.
  • Do not take if your blood pressure is too low (systolic below 90 mmHg).
  • Do not take if you have severe asthma or a serious lung disease.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can worsen heart problems.

  • If you have diabetes, this medicine can hide symptoms of low blood sugar. Check your blood sugar regularly.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase the sedative effects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions especially with with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
