How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. Typically, 47.5-190 mg metoprolol succinate once daily.

Method

Take the tablet once a day in the morning with water. Do not chew or crush the tablets; swallow them whole or as halves with liquid.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 190 mg metoprolol succinate for adults. For children, it varies but is typically up to 50 mg metoprolol tartrate.

RARE
  • Depression, nightmares, trouble sleeping
  • Tingling or numbness of the skin, temporary worsening of heart failure
  • Worsening shortness of breath (especially if you have asthma), skin reactions (rash)
  • Memory problems, confusion, vision problems, dry or irritated eyes
  • Erectile dysfunction, ringing in the ears, increased sweating, hair loss
  • Liver inflammation, joint pain, dry mouth
  • Worsening or new psoriasis, sensitivity to sunlight

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to metoprolol, other beta-blockers, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe or untreated heart failure, very low blood pressure, a very slow pulse (under 45 beats per minute), cardiogenic shock, or severe heart rhythm problems.
  • Do not use if you have severe blood circulation problems.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without your doctor's advice, as it can worsen heart conditions or increase the risk of a heart attack.
  • Tell your doctor if you have asthma, diabetes, circulation problems (like numbness or blue fingers/toes), or are taking other medicines that might interact with this medicine.
