How to Use

Dosage

Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, either on an empty stomach or with food.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor has prescribed for you in a single day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea and constipation
  • Slow heartbeat, palpitations
  • Low blood pressure when standing up, which may cause balance problems or fainting
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Shortness of breath during exercise
RARE
  • Temporary worsening of heart failure symptoms (e.g., shortness of breath or swelling)
  • Narrowing of airways (shortness of breath and wheezing)
  • Swelling, chest pain
  • Tingling sensations, muscle cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Weight gain
  • Rash, increased sweating
  • Sleep problems (nightmares, drowsiness, insomnia), difficulty concentrating, and feeling down
  • Heart rhythm problems, functional heart symptoms
  • Dry mouth
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Nervousness, tension
  • Impotence and other sexual problems
  • Runny nose
  • Vision problems, dry or irritated eyes, conjunctivitis
  • Hair loss
  • Worsening of severe circulation problems in the limbs (symptoms like oxygen shortage, pain, and coldness in fingertips/toes)
  • Low blood platelet count (may cause bruising or nosebleeds)
  • Liver inflammation
  • Joint pain
  • Forgetfulness or poor memory, confusion, hallucinations
  • Ringing in the ears, taste disorders
  • Sensitivity to light, worsening of psoriasis

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Metoprolin if you are allergic to metoprolol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Metoprolin if you have untreated or severe heart failure, a very slow pulse (under 45 beats per minute), or very low blood pressure (upper value below 100 mmHg).
  • Do not take Metoprolin if you have severe asthma or other severe lung conditions that make breathing difficult.
  • Do not stop taking Metoprolin suddenly; always talk to your doctor first, as stopping abruptly can be dangerous for your heart.
  • If you need surgery, tell your doctor that you are taking Metoprolin, as it can interact with anesthetics.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions especially with with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
