How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. A common starting dose for high blood pressure is one 47.5 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Take once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole or divided, do not chew or crush. Take with at least 1½ glasses of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 190 mg, or as instructed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling very tired
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Slow pulse
  • Balance problems
  • Irregular or strong heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Difficulty breathing when active
  • Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Significant drop in blood pressure, especially when standing up (rarely with fainting)
RARE
  • Temporary worsening of heart failure symptoms, chest pain, or shortness of breath
  • Worsening of diabetes without typical symptoms
  • Yellow skin or eyes (sign of liver problems)
  • Tissue death in hands/feet (if severe circulation problems existed before)
  • Tingling sensation
  • Tightness in airways
  • Vomiting
  • Skin rashes or increased sweating
  • Muscle cramps
  • Weight gain or swelling
  • Depression, trouble concentrating, drowsiness, insomnia, nightmares
  • Feeling nervous or anxious
  • Vision problems, dry or irritated eyes
  • Runny nose or dry mouth
  • Hair loss
  • Changes in sexual function (like impotence)
  • Low blood cell counts (platelets or white cells)
  • Ringing in ears or hearing problems
  • Changes in taste
  • Sensitivity to light, worsening of skin conditions like psoriasis
  • Joint pain or muscle weakness
  • Worsening of circulation problems in legs or fingers (like Raynaud's phenomenon)
  • Forgetfulness, confusion, hallucinations, or mood changes

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Metomylan if you are allergic to metoprolol, other similar medicines (beta-blockers), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Metomylan if you have certain severe heart rhythm problems, a very slow heartbeat (under 50 beats per minute), or very low blood pressure (below 90 mmHg).
  • Do not take Metomylan if you have severe asthma or other serious lung conditions that make it hard to breathe.
  • If you have diabetes, tell your doctor, as Metomylan can hide symptoms of low blood sugar. Your blood sugar should be checked regularly.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems or if you are going to have surgery.

  • Never stop taking Metomylan suddenly, as this can worsen your heart condition. Your doctor will advise you on how to stop gradually.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Metomylan, as it can make you feel more tired and increase the medicine's effects.
