How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually 2.5 mg once a day. The tablet can be divided into two equal halves. Your doctor will decide your exact dose and can change it if needed.

Method

Take the tablet every day with a meal, for example, breakfast.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose. Do not take more than your doctor prescribes.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea
  • Muscle cramps
  • Headache, dizziness, and fatigue
  • Low blood levels of potassium, sodium, and chloride
  • High blood levels of uric acid, urea, creatinine, and sugar
  • Sugar in urine
  • Decrease in white blood cell count (leukopenia)
  • Rash
  • Vasculitis (inflammation in blood vessels)
  • Gout
RARE
  • Flu-like symptoms, sore throat or mouth, fatigue, or problems urinating (due to a decrease in white blood cells, agranulocytosis)
  • Severe skin reaction with painful redness, large blisters, and skin peeling (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Decrease in red blood cell count
  • Decrease in platelet count
  • High blood calcium levels
  • Low blood magnesium levels
  • Liver inflammation and bile duct blockage within the liver
  • Kidney failure

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to metolazone or any other ingredients in the tablets.
  • Do not take if you have previously had an allergic reaction to diuretics that are sulfonamides or thiazides.
  • Do not take if you are unable to urinate.
  • Do not take if you have a coma or similar state due to liver cirrhosis.
  • Do not take if you have a serious imbalance of electrolytes in your blood.

  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have kidney disease, diabetes, or rheumatism.
  • If you get a fever, feel very unwell, have a sore throat, or have trouble urinating, contact your doctor immediately. This medicine can lower your white blood cells, making you prone to infections.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have surgery, as your dose of Metolazon Abcur may need to be adjusted.
  • Seek medical help if you experience blurred vision or eye pain. These could be signs of a serious eye condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated. The risk is higher if you have had an allergy to penicillin or sulfonamide.
  • Alcohol can lower your blood pressure and cause dizziness, weakness, and tiredness when taken with this medicine.
  • Do not use Metolazon Abcur if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can make you feel tired or dizzy, which may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel tired or drowsy.
