Metoject is a medicine that helps reduce inflammation, slows down the growth of fast-growing cells, and weakens the immune system to treat conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and Crohn's disease.

How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your specific dose.

Method

Inject under the skin once a week.

Important

This medicine must only be taken once a week. Taking too much can be fatal.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Mouth inflammation or mouth sores
  • Upset stomach, nausea, loss of appetite, stomach pain, diarrhea
  • Rash, red skin, itching
  • Headache, tiredness, feeling sleepy
  • Reduced white or red blood cells, or platelets
  • Abnormal liver function test results
RARE
  • Persistent dry cough, shortness of breath, fever, or coughing up blood (these can be signs of lung inflammation, scarring, or bleeding).
  • Yellow skin or eyes (liver damage); swelling in hands/feet, changes in urination, or very little/no urine (kidney damage).
  • Severe rash, widespread red/itchy skin, or swelling of hands/face/lips/throat, making it hard to breathe or swallow, fainting.
  • High fever, chills, sore throat/mouth, body aches, problems peeing, or unexpected bleeding/bruising; swollen lymph nodes.
  • Severe headache with stiff neck, confusion, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light; changes in thinking, memory, balance, or vision; weakness or paralysis; seizures.
  • Weakness on one side of the body, or pain, swelling, redness, and warmth in one leg.
  • Very serious skin rashes or blisters, including in the mouth, eyes, or private areas.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas, hair loss, skin ulcers, shingles, new diabetes, depression, low blood pressure, broken bones, changes in sex drive, trouble getting or keeping an erection, changes in periods, tissue damage at injection site, swelling.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to methotrexate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver, kidney, or blood diseases.
  • Do not use if you regularly drink large amounts of alcohol.
  • Do not use if you have a severe infection (like tuberculosis or HIV) or a weakened immune system.
  • Do not use if you have mouth sores or stomach/bowel ulcers.

  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Methotrexate can cause birth defects or miscarriage. Women should avoid pregnancy during and for 6 months after treatment. Men should avoid fathering a child during and for 3 months after treatment.
  • Do not get live vaccines during treatment.
  • If you cough up or spit out blood, contact your doctor immediately.
  • This medicine can make your skin sensitive to sunlight. Avoid strong sun and sunbeds.
  • If you have diarrhea, tell your doctor immediately, as treatment might need to be stopped.
  • If you notice new or worsening brain-related symptoms like weakness, vision changes, confusion, or memory problems, contact your doctor right away. This could be a sign of a rare but serious brain infection.
