How to Use

Dosage

One dose is 10 mg (2 ml).

Method

A doctor or nurse will give this medicine to you as a slow injection into a vein or muscle.

Important

Maximum daily dose is 30 mg (6 ml) or 0.5 mg (0.1 ml) per kg body weight, up to 3 times a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness
  • Depression
  • Involuntary movements like muscle twitches, tremors, or stiff muscles
  • Parkinson-like symptoms (stiffness, tremors)
  • Restlessness
  • Low blood pressure
  • Diarrhea
  • Weakness
  • Headache
RARE
  • Increased hormone levels (prolactin) causing milky discharge from breasts
  • Irregular periods
  • Hallucinations
  • Reduced consciousness
  • Seizures
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Involuntary muscle spasms after long-term use
  • High fever, high blood pressure, seizures, sweating, increased saliva (signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to metoclopramide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have bleeding, a blockage, or a tear in your stomach or intestines.
  • Do not use if you have epilepsy.
  • Do not use if you have Parkinson's disease or abnormal movements.
  • Your doctor must wait at least 6 hours after each metoclopramide dose before giving the next dose to prevent overdose.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase the sedative effects.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to react and drive.
