Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infection
  • Reduced natural production of hormones by the body (with long-term use)
  • Rounded face and weight gain
  • Swelling due to fluid and salt retention
  • Feeling down, or an unusual feeling of well-being (euphoria)
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens)
  • High blood pressure
  • Stomach or bowel ulcers (which can burst and bleed)
  • Bruising, thin and fragile skin, acne
  • Bone thinning (osteoporosis)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Poor wound healing
  • Low potassium levels in blood
RARE
  • Severe metabolic problems (tumor lysis syndrome) when cancer treatment starts
  • Brown, purple, or red raised spots on the skin or in the mouth (Kaposi's sarcoma)
  • Increased risk of infections
  • Increased white blood cell count (leukocytosis)
  • Severe allergic reactions to the medicine
  • Withdrawal symptoms when stopping steroids
  • Long-term use can lower certain hormone levels, leading to low blood pressure and dizziness
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • New or worsening diabetes
  • Localized fat accumulation in the body
  • Mood changes, mental addiction, suicidal thoughts, psychotic disorders (including mania, hallucinations), confusion, anxiety, unusual behavior, insomnia, irritability
  • Increased pressure inside the skull
  • Seizures, memory loss, problems with thinking or decision-making (brain fog), dizziness, headache
  • Increased eye pressure (glaucoma), swollen optic nerve (vision problems), thinning of the front or white part of the eye, worsening viral or fungal eye infections, bulging eyeballs, retinal disease (chorioretinopathy) which can cause eye problems, blurred vision, vision loss
  • Dizziness or feeling of spinning
  • Heart failure, irregular heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure, increased blood clotting
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, thrush in the esophagus (difficulty swallowing), indigestion, swollen abdomen, stomach pain, hiccups
  • Liver inflammation, increased liver enzyme levels
  • Scleroderma renal crisis in patients with scleroderma (an autoimmune disease). Symptoms include high blood pressure and reduced urine output.
  • Skin reactions (including swelling of skin and mucous membranes, red or purple patches, widened blood vessels, pigment changes, stretch marks, redness, excessive hair growth on body and face, rash, itching, hives, increased sweating)
  • Muscle wasting, bone fractures or fragility due to poor blood circulation, ruptured tendons, muscle cramps or spasms
  • Irregular or absent periods in women
  • Tiredness or general feeling of being unwell
  • Swelling in limbs
  • Skin reactions at the injection site
  • Weakened reactions to skin tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have a body-wide fungal infection.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to methylprednisolone, other corticosteroids, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience severe rash, facial swelling, wheezing, sudden drop in blood pressure, or breathing difficulties, as these could be signs of an allergic reaction.
  • This medicine can increase your risk of infections or hide their symptoms. Tell your doctor right away if you notice any signs of infection during treatment.
  • High doses or long-term use of this medicine can cause sudden pancreas inflammation, bone thinning (osteoporosis), or certain types of blood vessel tumors.

  • Long-term or high-dose use in children can affect growth, increase pressure inside the skull (with symptoms like headache, nausea/vomiting, balance problems), or cause pancreas inflammation.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice during treatment, as it can increase the medicine's side effects.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine, as it may slow the baby's growth. Small amounts of corticosteroids can pass into breast milk.
  • This medicine can cause side effects like dizziness, vision problems, and tiredness. If you experience these, do not drive or operate machinery.
