How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start with a low dose and may increase it by 18 mg each week until the right dose is found for you.

Method

Take one tablet once a day in the morning with a glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, divide, or crush it. It can be taken with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 54 mg for children and 72 mg for adults.

  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing)
  • Unusual excitement, overactivity, and lack of inhibition (mania)
  • Heart attack or sudden death
  • Attempted suicide
  • Seizures (fits, epilepsy)
  • Peeling skin or red patches on skin
  • Blocked blood vessels in the brain (like a stroke)
  • Temporary paralysis, movement or vision problems, speech difficulties
  • Fewer blood cells (can make you get infections, bleed, or bruise more easily)
  • Sudden high fever, very high blood pressure, and severe seizures
  • Migraine
  • Enlarged pupils
  • Delusions (believing things that are not true)
  • Severe stomach pain, often with nausea and vomiting
  • Inability to control urination
  • Jaw muscle spasm (difficulty opening mouth)
  • Stuttering
  • Nosebleed
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Eye diseases causing vision loss (glaucoma)
  • Prolonged and sometimes painful erections

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to methylphenidate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe heart problems (like a heart attack or irregular heartbeat) or a serious heart defect.
  • Do not take if you have very high blood pressure or blocked blood vessels that cause pain in your arms or legs, or have had brain blood vessel problems (like a stroke).
  • Do not take if you have severe mental health problems like psychosis, schizophrenia, or severe mood swings including suicidal thoughts or mania.
  • Do not take if you are currently using, or have used within the last 14 days, certain antidepressant medicines called MAO inhibitors.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a history of seizures (fits, epilepsy) or abnormal brain activity.
  • Boys and young men may have unexpected and long-lasting erections, which can be painful. Contact a doctor immediately if an erection lasts more than 2 hours, especially if it's painful.
  • If you or your child experience blurred vision or other eye problems, contact your doctor.
