How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start with a low dose, increasing it by 18 mg daily at most once a week if needed.

Method

Take Methylphenidate Viatris once daily in the morning with a glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, divide (unless your doctor has said it's okay for certain strengths), or crush it. It can be taken with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose will be determined by your doctor, usually up to 72 mg for adults and 54 mg for children.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Feeling nervous
  • Loss of appetite or weight loss
  • Upset stomach, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Fast heart rate or uneven heartbeats
  • High blood pressure
  • Dizziness or feeling weak
  • Mood changes, agitation, or irritability
  • Dry mouth or thirst
  • Blurred vision
  • Sweating more than usual
  • Muscle stiffness or cramps
RARE
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real (psychosis)
  • Uncontrolled body movements or speech (Tourette's syndrome)
  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, trouble breathing)
  • Heart attack or sudden death
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Problems with brain blood vessels (stroke, aneurysm)
  • Prolonged or painful erections (in males)
  • Severe stomach pain with nausea and vomiting
  • Unexplained fainting

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you or your child are allergic to methylphenidate or any other ingredient.
  • Do not take if you or your child have heart problems such as a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, heart failure, heart disease, or a heart defect from birth.
  • Do not take if you or your child have very high blood pressure or issues with brain blood vessels, such as a stroke or aneurysm.
  • Do not take if you or your child are currently taking or have taken certain antidepressants called MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days.
  • Do not take if you or your child have severe mental health conditions like psychosis, schizophrenia, severe depression with suicidal thoughts, or mania.
