How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will start with a small dose and slowly increase it until it works best for you or your child.

Method

Take one tablet once a day in the morning with a glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, split, or crush it. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The most you can take in one day is 54 mg.

  • Dry mouth, feeling thirsty
  • Difficulty falling asleep
  • Fever
  • Changes in sex drive
  • Unusual hair loss or thinning
  • Stiff muscles, muscle cramps
  • Loss of appetite or less desire to eat
  • Trouble getting or keeping an erection
  • Itchy, red skin or raised itchy rash (hives)
  • Unusual sleepiness, feeling tired
  • Feeling of panic
  • Tingling, prickling or numb feeling on the skin
  • Higher levels of a liver enzyme (alanine aminotransferase) in the blood
  • Cough, sore throat or nose irritation; upper respiratory infection, sinus infection
  • High blood pressure, fast pulse
  • Dizziness, feeling weak, uncontrolled movements, being overactive
  • Feeling aggressive, agitated, anxious, depressed, irritable, tense, nervous, or acting unusual
  • Stomach issues like pain, diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach, and vomiting
  • Sweating a lot
RARE
  • Thoughts or feelings of suicide
  • Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that aren't real (signs of psychosis)
  • Uncontrolled speaking or body movements (Tourette's syndrome)
  • Allergic reaction symptoms like rash, itching, hives, swelling of face, lips, tongue or other body parts, shortness of breath, wheezing, or trouble breathing
  • Feeling unusually excited, overactive, or impulsive (mania)
  • Dry eyes
  • Constipation
  • Chest discomfort
  • Blood in urine
  • Lack of energy
  • Shaking or trembling
  • Increased need to pee
  • Muscle pain, muscle twitches
  • Shortness of breath or chest pain
  • Feeling hot
  • Higher liver values (found in blood tests)
  • Anger, restlessness, crying easily, talking too much, being too aware of surroundings, or trouble sleeping
  • Confusion or feeling lost
  • Vision problems or seeing double
  • Breast swelling in men
  • Redness of skin, red, raised rash
  • Muscle cramps
  • Small red spots on the skin
  • Abnormal liver function, including sudden liver failure and coma
  • Changes in lab test results, including liver and blood values
  • Unusual thoughts, lack of feelings, repeating actions, or obsessive thoughts about one thing
  • Numbness in fingers and toes, tingling, and color changes (from white to blue, then red) when cold (Raynaud's phenomenon)
  • Migraine
  • Dilated pupils
  • Very high fever
  • Slow, fast, or extra heartbeats
  • Severe epileptic seizure (grand mal seizure)
  • Delusions (false beliefs)
  • Severe stomach pain, often with nausea and vomiting
  • Involuntary urination (urinary incontinence)
  • Jaw muscle spasms that make it hard to open the mouth
  • Nosebleed

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you or your child are allergic to methylphenidate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Avoid if you or your child have an overactive thyroid.
  • Do not use if you or your child have high eye pressure (glaucoma).
  • Do not use if you or your child have a tumor on the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma).
  • Do not use if you or your child have an eating disorder like anorexia nervosa, where you don't feel hungry or want to eat.

  • Avoid if you or your child have very high blood pressure or narrowed blood vessels that cause pain in arms and legs.
  • Do not use if you or your child have or have had heart problems, like a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, heart failure, or a heart defect from birth.
  • Do not use if you or your child have had problems with brain blood vessels, like a stroke, a bulge in a blood vessel (aneurysm), or blocked blood vessels.
  • Do not use if you or your child are taking or have taken certain depression medicines (MAOIs) in the last 14 days, as this can cause a sudden and dangerous rise in blood pressure.
  • Avoid if you or your child have severe mental health problems, like seeing or hearing things that aren't there (psychosis), severe mood changes (bipolar disorder), or thoughts of suicide.
  • If you are a boy or young man, tell your doctor if you have unexpected, long-lasting, and painful erections. Seek medical help if an erection lasts more than 2 hours or is painful.
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it can make side effects worse.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your child are having an operation. This medicine should not be taken on the day of surgery if certain anesthetics are used, due to the risk of a sudden rise in blood pressure.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, problems focusing, or blurry vision. Do not drive, operate machines, or cycle if you experience these symptoms.
