How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 20 mg once a day; your doctor may start with 10 mg. For adults, the starting dose is 20 mg once a day, and it can be gradually increased.

Method

Take Methylphenidate Stada once a day in the morning, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not crush or chew. If you cannot swallow the capsule, open it and sprinkle the contents onto a small amount of soft, cool food, and eat it immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 60 mg for patients under 18 years old and 80 mg for adults.

  • Changes in blood pressure (mainly high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat), cold hands and feet
  • Tremor or shaking, dizziness, uncontrolled movements, nervousness, abnormal activity
  • Aggression, agitation, restlessness, anxiety, depression, stress, irritability and abnormal behavior, sleep disturbances, fatigue
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, unpleasant feeling in stomach, indigestion, thirst, vomiting
RARE
  • Constipation
  • Chest discomfort
  • Blood in urine
  • Double vision or blurred vision
  • Muscle aches, muscle twitching, muscle tension
  • Elevated liver enzymes (seen in blood tests)
  • Anger, sadness, excessive awareness of surroundings, tension
  • Confusion
  • Dilated pupils, vision problems
  • Breast enlargement in men
  • Skin redness, red and raised rash
  • Heart attack
  • Sudden death
  • Muscle cramps
  • Small red spots on the skin
  • Arterial inflammation or blockage in the brain
  • Liver function changes, including liver failure and hepatic coma
  • Changes in lab test results, including liver enzymes and blood tests
  • Suicide attempt and suicide, abnormal thoughts, lack of emotions, repetitive behaviors, obsessions with certain things
  • Numbness, tingling or color changes in fingers or toes when cold (white to bluish, then red) (Raynaud's phenomenon)
  • Migraine
  • Very high fever
  • Slow, fast or extra heartbeats
  • Severe convulsion (grand mal seizure)
  • Believing unreal things, confusion
  • Severe abdominal pain, often with nausea and vomiting
  • Brain blood vessel problems (stroke, blood clots or inflammation)
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Increased uncontrolled talkativeness
  • Prolonged, sometimes painful, erection or increased number of erections
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Jaw muscle spasm that makes it hard to open the mouth (lockjaw)
  • Stuttering
  • Nosebleed

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to methylphenidate or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a thyroid problem.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking medicines for depression called MAO inhibitors or have taken them in the last 14 days.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have high eye pressure (glaucoma).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a tumor in your adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma).

  • Do not take this medicine if you have an eating disorder, like anorexia, where you don't feel hungry or want to eat.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have very high blood pressure or narrowed blood vessels causing pain in your arms or legs.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have or have had heart problems (e.g., heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, heart failure, or a congenital heart defect).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had problems with blood vessels in your brain (e.g., stroke, aneurysm, narrowed or blocked blood vessels, or vasculitis).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have serious mental health problems like psychosis (seeing/hearing things that aren't real), schizophrenia, thoughts of harming yourself, severe depression, mania (feeling overly excited), or mood swings.
  • This medicine is not for children under 6 years old.
  • If you experience irregular heartbeats or sudden mood/personality changes, contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience suicidal thoughts or feelings, contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you start seeing, feeling, or hearing things that aren't there (psychosis), contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you develop uncontrolled movements or speech (Tourette's syndrome), contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you have an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, itching, hives, swelling of face/lips/tongue/other body parts, difficulty breathing), contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you feel unusually excited, overactive, or uninhibited (mania), contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience a heart attack or sudden death, seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you have seizures or convulsions (epilepsy), seek immediate medical attention.
  • If your skin peels or you have purple-red spots on your skin, seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you experience uncontrolled muscle spasms affecting your eyes, head, neck, body, or nerves, especially if due to temporary lack of blood flow to the brain, seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you experience paralysis, difficulty moving, seeing, or speaking (signs of brain blood vessel problems), seek immediate medical attention.
  • If your blood cell count is low (red, white, or platelets), making you prone to infections, bleeding, or bruising, seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you have a sudden high body temperature, very high blood pressure, and severe convulsions (neuroleptic malignant syndrome), seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you have unpleasant, unwanted thoughts that keep coming back, seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you experience unexplained fainting, chest pain, or shortness of breath (signs of heart problems), seek immediate medical attention.
  • For boys and men, a prolonged, painful erection (priapism) can occur. Seek medical help immediately if an erection lasts longer than 2 hours.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a history of alcohol, prescription drug, or illegal drug abuse or dependence.
