How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start with a low dose and may increase it by 18 mg each week if needed.

Method

Take one tablet whole with a glass of water once a day in the morning. Do not chew, split, or crush it. It can be taken with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 54 mg, as decided by your doctor.

  • Tingling, prickling, or numb skin
  • High liver enzyme levels in blood (seen in tests)
  • Cough, sore throat, nose/throat irritation, upper respiratory infection, sinus infection
  • High blood pressure, fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • Dizziness (vertigo), weakness, uncontrolled movements, being overly active
  • Aggressiveness, agitation, anxiety, depression, irritability, tension, nervousness, unusual behavior
  • Indigestion, stomach pain, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, vomiting
  • Sweating a lot
  • Weight loss
  • Irregular heartbeats (palpitations)
  • Mood swings or changes in personality
RARE
  • Thoughts of harming oneself
  • Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not real (signs of psychosis)
  • Uncontrolled speech or body movements (Tourette's syndrome)
  • Allergic reaction (rash, itching, hives, swelling of face/lips/tongue, trouble breathing)
  • Extreme agitation, being overly active and uninhibited (mania)
  • Heart attack
  • Sudden death
  • Attempting suicide
  • Seizures (epilepsy)
  • Peeling skin or red-purple spots on skin
  • Brain artery inflammation or blockage
  • Temporary paralysis or problems with movement, vision, or speech (signs of brain blood vessel problems)
  • Uncontrolled muscle twitching in eyes, head, neck, body, and nerves
  • Low blood cell count (red, white, platelets), leading to more infections, bleeding, or bruising
  • Sudden high body temperature, very high blood pressure, and severe seizures (neuroleptic malignant syndrome, cause uncertain)
  • Recurrent unwanted thoughts
  • Unexplained fainting, chest pain, shortness of breath (signs of heart problems)
  • Prolonged and sometimes painful erections, or more erections
  • Dry eyes
  • Constipation
  • Chest discomfort
  • Blood in urine
  • Apathy (lack of interest)
  • Tremor or shaking
  • Increased need to urinate
  • Muscle pain, muscle twitching
  • Shortness of breath or chest pain
  • Feeling hot
  • High liver values (seen in blood tests)
  • Anger, restlessness, tearfulness, talking too much, being too aware of surroundings, trouble sleeping
  • Confusion or feeling disoriented
  • Vision problems or double vision
  • Breast swelling in men
  • Redness of the skin, red raised rash
  • Migraine
  • Dilated pupils
  • Very high fever
  • Slow, fast, or extra heartbeats
  • Severe epileptic seizure (grand mal)
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Damage to eye nerves from high pressure due to blocked fluid drainage
  • Believing things that are not true (delusions)
  • Severe stomach pain, often with nausea and vomiting
  • Brain blood vessel problems (stroke or brain inflammation)
  • Inability to control urination (incontinence)
  • Jaw muscle spasms making it hard to open mouth
  • Stammering
  • Nosebleed

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if your child is allergic to methylphenidate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if your child has an overactive thyroid gland, high pressure in the eye (glaucoma), or a tumor on their adrenal gland.
  • Do not use if your child has an eating disorder, like anorexia, or does not feel hungry and does not want to eat.
  • Do not use if your child has very high blood pressure or narrow blood vessels that might cause pain in their arms and legs.
  • Do not use if your child has had heart problems like a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, heart failure, heart disease, or a heart defect they were born with.

  • Do not use if your child has had problems with blood vessels in the brain, such as a stroke, weakened blood vessels (aneurysm), or blocked blood vessels.
  • Do not use if your child is taking or has taken certain antidepressants called MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days.
  • Do not use if your child has mental health problems like psychopathic personality disorder, abnormal thoughts or visions (schizophrenia), or severe mood problems such as suicidal thoughts, severe depression, or mania.
  • Boys and young men may have unexpected, painful, and long-lasting erections. If an erection lasts more than 2 hours and is painful, contact a doctor right away.
  • This medicine can make your child feel dizzy, have trouble focusing, or have blurred vision, which makes it dangerous to drive, use machines, bike, or climb.
  • Do not drink alcohol while using this medicine, as it can make side effects worse.
