Metformin Viatris is a medicine used by adults with type 2 diabetes to help control blood sugar when diet and exercise alone are not enough, especially for overweight patients.
The usual starting dose for adults is 500 mg once a day. Your doctor may adjust the dose after about 2 weeks based on your blood sugar levels.
Take tablets once a day with your evening meal. If your doctor tells you to, you may take them twice a day, always with food. Swallow each tablet whole with a glass of water; do not chew, break, or crush them.
The maximum daily dose is 2000 mg.
