Metformin Accord is a medicine for type 2 diabetes that helps lower blood sugar, especially for overweight adults who cannot control it with diet and exercise alone.
For children and adolescents over 10 years, the usual starting dose is 500 mg or 850 mg once daily. For adults, the usual starting dose is 500 mg or 850 mg two or three times a day.
Take Metformin Accord with or after meals to avoid stomach problems. Do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow each tablet whole with a glass of water. If you take one dose daily, take it in the morning (with breakfast). If you take two doses daily, take them in the morning (with breakfast) and in the evening (with dinner). If you take three doses daily, take them in the morning (with breakfast), at midday (with lunch), and in the evening (with dinner).
For children and adolescents, the maximum daily dose is 2000 mg, divided into two or three doses. For adults, the maximum daily dose is 3000 mg, divided into three doses.
