How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10-30 mg per day, slowly increased by your doctor. The common daily dose is 60-120 mg.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth only. Never inject it, as this can cause serious harm or even death.

Important

Do not take more than the dose your doctor has agreed with you. The typical maximum daily dose is 120 mg.

  • Low blood pressure

  • Low potassium or magnesium levels in the blood

  • Sleep apnea (pauses in breathing during sleep)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to methadone hydrochloride or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have used certain antidepressants (MAO-inhibitors) in the last two weeks.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe breathing difficulties or severe asthma.
  • This medicine must not be given to children due to a high risk of poisoning. Keep it out of their reach.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can cause serious side effects.

  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or operate machinery until your doctor says it's safe.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart, lung, liver, kidney, or thyroid problems, or problems with your prostate or urination.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially other opioid pain relievers, sedatives, or medicines for depression or Parkinson's disease, as they can interact dangerously.
