How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults is 10-30 mg per day. The dose is slowly increased until withdrawal symptoms or overdose symptoms disappear. The usual daily dose is 60-120 mg. Your doctor will decide your exact dose.

Method

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you. You must only take it by mouth; never inject it.

Important

Do not take more than the dose your doctor has prescribed for you.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to methadone hydrochloride or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have used MAO inhibitors (medicines for depression or Parkinson's disease) in the last two weeks.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe breathing difficulties.
  • Metadon Nordic Drugs should not be given to children.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have acute asthma attacks, lung disease, or other breathing problems.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have an underactive thyroid or skin and tissue diseases.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have had a head injury or high pressure in the brain (this can cause severe headaches).

  • Talk to your doctor if you have low oxygen levels or high carbon dioxide levels in your blood.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other opioid pain relievers (like morphine or pentazocine).
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking sedatives or sleeping pills (like barbiturates or benzodiazepines).
  • This medicine can cause breathing problems during sleep, such as sleep apnea. If you notice these symptoms, contact your doctor.
  • This medicine can affect your heart's electrical activity, especially at high doses. Tell your doctor if you have had heart problems.
  • Weakness, tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or low blood pressure can be signs that your adrenal glands are not producing enough cortisol. You may need hormone supplements.
  • Long-term use can reduce sex hormones and increase prolactin hormone, which can lead to symptoms like decreased sex drive, impotence, or missed periods. Contact your doctor if you experience these.
  • Children are more sensitive to methadone. Keep this medicine in a safe place, out of reach of children, to prevent accidental poisoning.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as they can cause serious side effects or change how the medicine works.
  • Do not take this medicine during labor.
  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines until your dose is stable. Do not drive or use machines at the beginning of treatment.
  • This medicine contains sugars (sucrose and glucose). If you have diabetes or a sugar intolerance, tell your doctor.
  • If you take too much of this medicine, seek immediate medical help even if you feel well, as methadone poisoning can develop.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
  • You may become dependent on Methadone Nordic Drugs.
