How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, but it is usually 60–120 mg per day.

Method

Take this medicine only by mouth. Never inject it, as this is very dangerous.

Important

Your doctor will set your maximum daily dose. It is usually not more than 120 mg per day.

  • Difficulty breathing (including cough)
  • Dry mouth
  • Tongue inflammation

  • Confusion
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Headache
  • Fainting
  • Low blood pressure
  • Itching
  • Hives
  • Swelling of the legs
  • Weakness
  • Significant fluid accumulation in the body (edema)
  • Gallbladder spasms (causing stomach pain)
  • Facial flushing
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Heart problems
  • Slow heart rate
  • Feeling your heart beat (palpitations)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to methadone or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have used certain medicines for depression or Parkinson's disease (called MAO inhibitors) in the last two weeks.
  • Tell your doctor if you have breathing difficulties, asthma, or lung disease.
  • This medicine must not be given to children as even small amounts can be dangerous. Keep it out of reach of children.
  • Tell your doctor about any liver, kidney, heart, thyroid, or prostate problems, or if you have had a head injury.

  • Be careful if you are taking other opioid pain medicines, sedatives, or sleeping pills, as this can be dangerous.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines, especially at the start of treatment.
  • This medicine can cause addiction. Your doctor will monitor you carefully.
  • This medicine can cause breathing problems during sleep (sleep apnea) or affect your heart, especially at high doses. Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or notice breathing issues during sleep.
