How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10-30 mg per day. The dose is slowly increased until withdrawal symptoms or overdose signs are not present. The common dose is 60-120 mg per day.

Method

Take this medicine only by mouth. Never inject it.

Do not take more than the dose your doctor has agreed with you.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to methadone hydrochloride or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have used MAO inhibitors (for depression or Parkinson's disease) in the last two weeks.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing difficulties or acute asthma attacks.
  • This medicine must not be given to children. Keep it out of reach of children.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have lung, liver, kidney, or heart problems, or an underactive thyroid.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have had a head injury or high pressure in your brain.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have an enlarged prostate or difficulty urinating.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have stomach pain, diarrhea, or constipation.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially other opioid pain relievers or sedatives.
  • This medicine contains methadone, which is an opioid. Repeated use can lead to tolerance, dependence, and addiction.
  • Methadone can cause breathing problems during sleep, like sleep apnea. If you notice this, contact your doctor.
  • High doses of methadone can affect your heart's electrical signals. Tell your doctor if you have heart problems.
  • Weakness, tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or low blood pressure can be signs of adrenal problems. Contact your doctor.
  • Long-term use can change sex hormone levels. Talk to your doctor if you experience decreased sex drive or menstrual changes.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can cause serious side effects.
  • Do not take this medicine during childbirth. If pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor.
  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines, especially at the start of treatment. Do not drive or operate machinery until your doctor says it is safe.
  • This medicine contains sugar (sucrose and glucose). If you have diabetes or sugar intolerance, talk to your doctor.
  • The preservative methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) can cause allergic reactions.
