How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 5 mg, taken 1-3 times a day; for patients who have used opioids before, the dose may be 5-20 mg, 2-3 times a day.

Method

This medicine is taken by mouth as a tablet; it must not be injected.

Important

The maximum daily dose for severe pain is 100 mg.

  • Drop in blood pressure when standing up (dizziness, weakness, fainting)

  • Sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Metadon Abcur if you are allergic to methadone or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use Metadon Abcur if you have taken antidepressants called MAO inhibitors in the last two weeks.
  • Do not use Metadon Abcur if you have severe breathing difficulties, like slow and shallow breathing.
  • Metadon Abcur must not be given to children.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Metadon Abcur if you have asthma attacks or lung disease.

  • Tell your doctor if you have had heart problems before, especially if you are taking high doses of Metadon Abcur, as it can affect your heart's electrical signals.
  • Tell your doctor if you feel weak, tired, have no appetite, feel sick, or have low blood pressure, as these could be signs of a problem with your adrenal glands.
  • Long-term use of Metadon Abcur can lower sex hormones, which may lead to less sex drive, erectile problems, or missed periods.
  • Metadon Abcur can cause addiction. Do not take more than your doctor prescribed or for longer than needed.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking Metadon Abcur, as this can cause serious side effects or change how the medicine works.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines, especially at the start of treatment.
