How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 5 mg, taken 1-3 times a day. Your doctor may slowly increase the dose. If you have used opioids before, your doctor might start you on a higher dose, 5-20 mg, 2-3 times a day.

Method

This medicine is taken by mouth and should not be injected.

Important

The maximum daily dose for severe pain is 100 mg.

  • Menstrual cycle disorders.
  • Heart problems, including slow pulse and palpitations.
  • Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood.

  • Cardiac arrest.
  • Irregular heartbeat, with symptoms like a pulse that is too fast or too slow, fluttering in the chest, shortness of breath, or chest pain.
  • Drop in blood pressure when standing up, causing dizziness, weakness, or fainting.
  • Sudden death.
  • Low blood sugar.
  • Sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to methadone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are taking or have taken MAO inhibitors (medicines for depression or Parkinson's disease) in the last two weeks.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems, like slow and shallow breathing or acute obstructive lung disease.
  • This medicine should not be given to children.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have acute asthma attacks.

  • Repeated use of Metadon Abcur can lead to dependence, misuse, and addiction, which can result in life-threatening overdose.
