How to Use

Dosage

One suppository (1g) once a day.

Method

Insert into the rectum. Empty your bowels first. Lie on your left side for about 1 hour after inserting. Keep in the rectum for 1-3 hours to increase effectiveness.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Headache, dizziness.
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, or swollen limbs due to heart issues.
  • Increased skin sensitivity to sunlight.
  • Kidney problems, sometimes with swollen legs or side pain.
  • Severe abdominal pain due to sudden pancreas inflammation.
  • Worsening of colitis symptoms.
  • Fever, sore throat, or nausea due to changes in blood counts.
  • Shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, or lung problems.
  • Diarrhea and severe abdominal pain due to an allergic reaction in the bowel.
  • Rash or skin inflammation.
  • Muscle and joint pain.
  • Jaundice (yellow skin/eyes) or abdominal pain due to liver or gallbladder problems.
  • Hair loss.
  • Severe rash (erythema multiforme).
  • Numbness or tingling in fingers and toes.
  • Temporary decrease in sperm production (reversible).
  • Blood disorders.
  • Kidney stones and kidney pain.
  • Severe skin reactions like DRESS, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).
  • Increased pressure in the brain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to mesalazine, salicylates (like aspirin), or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver disease, or a condition that makes you bleed easily.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, lung issues (like asthma), or stomach or bowel ulcers.
  • If you get severe rashes, fever, or difficulty breathing, stop using the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to sulfasalazine in the past, as it is a similar medicine.

  • Drink enough water to help prevent kidney stones. Contact your doctor if you have side pain or blood in your urine.
  • If you have a severe or frequent headache, vision problems, or ringing in your ears, contact your doctor immediately.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
