How to Use

Dosage

For adults, typically 1.5-4 grams (3-8 tablets) per day for active flare-ups, and 1.5-3 grams (3-6 tablets) per day to prevent new flare-ups.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with liquid before meals. Do not split, chew, or crush them.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 4 grams (8 tablets).

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, or swelling in arms and legs due to heart changes
  • Increased skin sensitivity to sunlight and UV light (photosensitivity)
  • Kidney problems, sometimes with swollen limbs or pain in the side
  • Severe abdominal pain due to sudden inflammation of the pancreas
  • Worsening of colitis symptoms
  • Fever, sore throat, or nausea due to changes in blood cell counts
  • Shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, or lung changes seen on X-ray due to allergic and/or inflammatory lung conditions
  • Diarrhea and severe abdominal pain due to an allergic reaction in the intestine caused by the medicine
  • Rash or skin inflammation
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Jaundice or abdominal pain due to liver or bile duct problems
  • Hair loss and baldness
  • Erythema multiforme (a severe reaction affecting the skin and mucous membranes)
  • Numbness or tingling in fingers and toes (peripheral nerve damage)
  • Reversible decrease in sperm production
  • Blood count disorders
  • Kidney stones and associated kidney pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to mesalazine, aspirin, other salicylates, or any other ingredients of this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver problems or a condition that causes easy bleeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have lung disease (like asthma), stomach/intestinal ulcers, heart inflammation, or a history of sulfasalazine allergy or severe skin reactions to mesalazine.
  • Stop taking and contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe headache, vision problems, ringing in ears, or allergic symptoms (e.g., rash, itching, severe stomach pain, fever).
  • Drink plenty of fluids to prevent kidney stones; symptoms include side pain and blood in urine.

  • Stop taking and seek medical help immediately if you develop severe skin reactions (widespread red patches with blisters, peeling skin, or sores in mouth/genitals/eyes).
  • Not recommended for children under 5 years old.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
