How to Use

Dosage

The usual adult dose is 500 mg to 2 g every 8 hours. For children over 3 months to 12 years, the dose is 10-40 mg per kg of body weight every 8 hours. Children over 50 kg receive adult doses.

Method

Meropenem Stada is given as an injection or infusion into a large vein. An injection can take 5 to 30 minutes.

Important

Up to 6 grams for adults, and up to 120 mg per kg for children, given in divided doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach ache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash, itchy skin
  • Pain and inflammation
  • Increased number of platelets in blood (seen in blood tests)
  • Changes in blood test results, including liver function tests
RARE
  • Changes in blood (e.g., easy bruising from fewer platelets, changes in white blood cells, increased bilirubin)
  • Changes in blood test results, including kidney function tests
  • Tingling or "pins and needles" sensation
  • Fungal infections in the mouth or vagina
  • Low potassium in blood (causing weakness, muscle cramps, tingling, or irregular heartbeat)
  • Seizures
  • Bowel inflammation with diarrhea
  • Soreness or pain in the vein where Meropenem Stada is injected
  • Other blood changes (e.g., frequent infections, high fever, sore throat)
  • Sudden severe rash, blisters, or peeling skin, possibly with high fever and joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe diarrhea caused by antibiotics.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you notice yellow skin or eyes, itchy skin, dark urine, or pale stools, as these can be signs of liver problems.
  • Do not use Meropenem Stada if you are allergic to meropenem or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you are allergic to other antibiotics (like penicillin or cephalosporins), you might also be allergic to Meropenem Stada.

  • Do not use Meropenem Stada if you are taking sodium valproate (for epilepsy), as it can make it less effective.
  • Do not stop using Meropenem Stada unless your doctor tells you to.
  • If you experience a severe allergic reaction (sudden rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing), stop use and seek immediate medical help.
  • If you notice unexpected shortness of breath or red/brown urine, seek immediate medical help, as these can be signs of red blood cell damage.
