How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 500 mg to 2 g every 8 hours. For children over 3 months, the dose is 10-40 mg per kg every 8 hours, up to the adult dose.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection or infusion into a large vein by a doctor or nurse. Injections typically take about 5 minutes, and infusions take 15-30 minutes.

Important

The dose should not be given more often than every 8 hours. Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash, itchy skin
  • Pain and inflammation at the injection site
  • Increased number of platelets in blood tests
  • Changes in blood test results, including liver function tests
RARE
  • Changes in blood counts (e.g., fewer platelets, more or fewer white blood cells, increased bilirubin)
  • Changes in blood test results, including kidney function tests
  • Tingling or 'pins and needles' sensation
  • Fungal infections of the mouth or vagina
  • Low potassium levels in the blood (can cause weakness, muscle cramps, tingling, and irregular heartbeat)
  • Seizures

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to meropenem or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to other antibiotics like penicillin, cephalosporins, or carbapenems, as you might also be allergic to meropenem.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe diarrhea after taking other antibiotics.
  • Seek medical help immediately if you notice yellow skin/eyes, itchy skin, dark urine, or pale stools, as these could be signs of liver problems.

  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially probenecid, sodium valproate (which should not be used with Meropenem Stada), and warfarin.
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. It is generally recommended to avoid this medicine during pregnancy, and small amounts can pass into breast milk.
  • This medicine might affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
  • This medicine contains sodium. Each 500 mg vial contains about 45 mg sodium (2.3% of the daily recommended maximum for adults), and each 1 g vial contains about 90 mg sodium (4.5%).
