How to Use

Dosage

For adults, 500 mg to 2 g every eight hours. For children (over 3 months, under 50 kg), 10-40 mg per kilogram of body weight every eight hours.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection (quickly injected) or an infusion (drip) directly into a large vein.

Important

For adults and adolescents, up to 2 g three times a day. For children, up to 40 mg/kg three times a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash, itchy skin
  • Pain and inflammation (swelling) at the injection site
  • Increase in blood platelet count (seen in blood tests)
  • Changes in blood test results, for example, liver function tests
RARE
  • Blood changes (e.g., easy bruising, changes in white blood cells, increased bilirubin).
  • Changes in blood test results, for example, kidney function tests.
  • Tingling or prickling sensation.
  • Fungal infections of the mouth and vagina (thrush).
  • Bowel inflammation with diarrhea.
  • Tenderness or soreness of the vein where Meropenem Qilu is injected.
  • Other blood changes, symptoms can be recurrent infections, high fever, and sore throat.
  • Decreased potassium in the blood (can cause weakness, muscle cramps, tingling, and irregular heart rhythm).
  • Liver problems: Yellowing of the skin and eyes, itchy skin, dark urine or pale stools. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice these signs or symptoms.
  • Seizures.
  • Sudden disorientation and confusion (delirium).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to meropenem, other ingredients in this medicine, or other antibiotics (like penicillins).
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you have had severe diarrhea caused by antibiotics.
  • If you develop severe skin reactions (like rash, blisters, or peeling skin), contact a doctor immediately.
  • Contact a doctor if your skin or eyes turn yellow, you experience itching, dark urine, or pale stools. These can be signs of liver problems.

  • Avoid use with valproic acid (epilepsy medication) as it may weaken its effect.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Use during pregnancy should be avoided.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience headaches, tingling, or involuntary muscle movements (seizures).
