How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the dose is usually between 500 mg and 2 g, given every 8 hours; for children over 3 months, it's 10-40 mg per kg of body weight every 8 hours, with children over 50 kg receiving the adult dose.

Method

Meropenem Navamedic is given as an injection or infusion directly into a large vein by a doctor or nurse.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, which can be up to 6 grams for adults.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash or itchy skin
  • Pain and inflammation at the injection site
  • Increased platelet count in blood tests
  • Changes in blood tests, including liver function tests
RARE
  • Changes in blood tests (like fewer platelets, or changes in white blood cells and bilirubin)
  • Changes in kidney function blood tests
  • Low potassium levels in blood (can cause weakness, muscle cramps, tingling, or irregular heartbeat)
  • Liver problems (yellow skin or eyes, itchy skin, dark urine, pale stools)
  • Tingling or prickling sensations on the skin
  • Fungal infections (e.g., in mouth or vagina)
  • Bowel inflammation with diarrhea
  • Tenderness or pain in blood vessels at injection site
  • Other blood changes (may cause frequent infections, high fever, and sore throat)
  • Seizures
  • Sudden confusion (delirium)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to meropenem or other antibiotics like penicillin, cephalosporins, or carbapenems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems or have had severe diarrhea after taking other antibiotics.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin reactions like rashes, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or difficulty breathing, or severe peeling skin.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or dark urine, as these could be signs of muscle damage.
  • Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of skin or eyes, itchy skin, dark urine, or pale stools, as these can be signs of liver problems.

  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, as meropenem use is generally not recommended during pregnancy.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience headaches, tingling, or uncontrolled muscle movements (seizures) as these can impair your ability.
