How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on the type and severity of the infection. Adults usually receive 500 mg to 2 g, typically every 8 hours. Children (3 months to 12 years) receive 10–40 mg per kg, usually every 8 hours; children over 50 kg receive the adult dose.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection or infusion directly into a large vein, usually by a doctor or nurse.

Important

The maximum single dose for adults is 2 g. Your doctor will determine your specific daily maximum dose, based on your infection and kidney function.

  • Stomach pain
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Being sick (vomiting)
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash
  • Itchy skin
  • Pain and inflammation at the injection site
  • Increased number of platelets in your blood
  • Changes in blood tests that show how your liver is working
RARE
  • Changes in your blood (such as fewer platelets making you bruise easily, more of certain white blood cells, fewer of other white blood cells, increased bilirubin)
  • Changes in blood tests that show how well your kidneys are working
  • Tingling or 'pins and needles' sensation
  • Fungal infections in your mouth or vagina
  • Bowel inflammation with diarrhea
  • Soreness in the vein where Meropenem AptaPharma is injected
  • Other changes in blood, with symptoms like frequent infections, fever, and sore throat
  • Sudden severe rash, blisters, or peeling skin (may be associated with high fever and joint pain)
  • Decreased potassium levels in your blood (which can cause weakness, muscle cramps, tingling, and irregular heartbeat)
  • Liver problems (yellow skin and eyes, itchy skin, dark urine, or pale stools) - seek immediate medical attention
  • Seizures (convulsions)
  • Acute disorientation and confusion (delirium)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to meropenem or other antibiotics like carbapenems, penicillins, or cephalosporins.
  • Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe diarrhea after using other antibiotics.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you notice signs of severe skin reactions, such as rash, blisters, peeling skin, high fever, or joint pain.
  • Report immediately to your doctor if you notice yellow skin or eyes, itchy skin, dark urine, or pale stools, as these can be signs of liver problems.

  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially probenecid, valproic acid, or blood thinners.

  • This medicine may cause headache, tingling, or involuntary muscle movements that can affect your ability to drive or use machines.
