How to Use

Dosage

Typically, 75 IU of menotropin is given as the first injection during the first week of your menstrual cycle. For women undergoing fertility treatment, the treatment starts on day 2 or 3 of the menstrual cycle with 150–300 IU. Your doctor will adjust the dose individually.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose based on your ovarian response.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Abdominal bloating or distension
  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which may include ovarian cysts, lower abdominal pain, thirst, nausea, sometimes vomiting, low urine output, and weight gain.
  • Abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Pelvic pain
  • Back pain
  • Feeling of heaviness
  • Breast discomfort
  • Dizziness
  • Hot flashes
  • Thirst
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • General feeling of unwellness
  • Injection site reactions, such as pain and inflammation
RARE
  • Ovarian torsion (twisting of the ovary, causing severe lower abdominal pain)
  • Thromboembolism (blood clot formation in a blood vessel that can break off and travel to block another vessel)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you have ovarian cysts not caused by hormone imbalances.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have unexplained bleeding.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have ovarian, uterine, or breast cancer.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have tumors in your pituitary gland or hypothalamus (in the brain).
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to menotropin or any other ingredients.

  • This medicine should not be used if you have early menopause, abnormalities of the reproductive organs, or certain uterine tumors that would prevent a normal pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to similar medicines.
  • This treatment increases the risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). If symptoms occur, treatment will be stopped, and pregnancy should be avoided. Do not have intercourse for at least 4 days after hCG administration.
  • Discuss the risk of thrombosis (blood clots) with your doctor if you or your family have a history of blood clots, or if you are severely overweight.
  • Meriofert Set should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
