How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your exact dose. For ovulation induction, treatment usually starts with 75 IU daily, adjusted as needed. For IVF/ART, treatment typically starts with 150-300 IU daily on day 2 or 3 of your menstrual cycle.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous) or into a muscle (intramuscular). Your doctor or nurse can show you how to give yourself the injection at home. Each vial is for single use and should be used right after preparation.

Important

The maximum daily dose should not exceed 450 IU, as determined and adjusted by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Bloating or swelling in the belly
  • Belly pain or discomfort
  • Pelvic pain
  • Back pain
  • Feeling of heaviness
  • Breast discomfort
  • Dizziness
  • Hot flashes
  • Thirst
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Tiredness (fatigue)
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Reaction at the injection site (like pain or redness)
  • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), which can cause lower belly pain, nausea, vomiting, or weight gain.
RARE
  • Ovarian twisting (severe pain in the lower belly)
  • Blood clots in a vein (e.g., in legs or lungs)

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can increase your risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), which causes severe lower belly pain, nausea, vomiting, and weight gain. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms.
  • This treatment increases the chance of having multiple babies (twins, triplets, etc.). Your doctor will use the lowest effective dose to reduce this risk.
  • This medicine might increase your risk of blood clots (thrombosis). Tell your doctor if you have a history of blood clots, if anyone in your family has had them, or if you are very overweight.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to menotropin or any of its ingredients, or if you have certain types of ovarian cysts, unexplained bleeding, or specific cancers (ovarian, uterine, breast) or brain tumors.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
